Makeshift Knife
The Makeshift Knife is Leon's opening tool — a crude blade fashioned from a broken piece of metal and cloth wrapping, found in the Wrenwood Hotel parking lot during the game's prologue. It has the lowest durability of any weapon in the game — breaking after just 2–3 uses. The makeshift nature of the weapon is intentional narrative design: Leon arrived at the hotel expecting a routine investigation, not a full outbreak. He has none of his standard equipment. The Makeshift Knife is designed to fail, both as a gameplay mechanic and as a story signal that the player is on their own. After finding the Hunting Knife, the Makeshift Knife becomes entirely obsolete and should be stored or dropped.
